The Transformative Gift of Art
Gini's talent for designing and artistry have come together in a stunning piece being auctioned off at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) Promise Ball this Saturday, May 12th. This piece is the Children's Project of this year's Gala. Gini designed this piece to follow the theme of the Gala, "The Golden Age of Las Vegas". The children of the JDRF, their parents, friends, and supporters including the Johnson High School Volleyball Team all worked on this project.
Here are some specifics from Gini:
Inspiration : The Heart
• The free spirits of the JDRF children came alive through the incredible micro works of art. I spent an entire day being inspired by the insulin bottle art and was overwhelmed with joy and happiness. This inspiration reminded me of the reasons why we create to begin with. The insulin bottles give life to each and every child and the creative process brings life to humanity.
• A deep and profound sense that I too was about to be transformed once again by the creative process in combination working with the kids. As adults, we learn so much from these little souls.
• This renewed awareness of the importance of original creative acts was only possible through the playtime we experienced together.
• In working together it became evident that not any child walks alone through his disease but in fact we all walk together. Each little painted bottle came to represent each child and as I began to place the painted bottles on the chair, a weaving or tapestry began to form.
• This tapestry includes not only the children but the family's and friends who help support the importance in finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes. The more we layered the bottles the larger the JDRF community became, It began to include researchers, scientists, institutions, philanthropists and world as a whole.
• The light emerging from the foundation of the chair represents The Cure as I envision it. A ray of light shines through the glass and illuminates our hope as we see that The cure could occur within our lifetime.
